The Witch’s Mark
What does it mean to witness the suffering of others? Experience 'The Witch’s Mark,' an interdisciplinary performance by Belle and The Beats, in collaboration with the sculptural series by visual artist and filmmaker Deniz Eroglu. This performance delves into the cyclical nature of the persecution and dominion of women and other marginalized individuals in society, as well as the role of spectatorship in these events. Through the interplay of electronic live music, vocals, dance, theatre, shibari and visual art, 'The Witch’s Mark' creates a multi-sensory experience, inviting the audience to witness the three stages of the witch trial: interrogation, trial, and execution.
Make Love or Die
Make Love or Die is a provocative interdisciplinary performance that reimagines the classic murder ballad. With this project Belle and The Beats challenges the romanticized portrayal of the crime passionnel, exposing its true nature as systemic violence against women.
The project confronts the cultural and historical roots of male dominance, where, for centuries, women existed largely within the moral and psychological spheres of men, reliant on their structures of power. While movements like the second wave of feminism and #MeToo have redefined gender relations, true equality remains elusive. Why is this imbalance so persistent? And how can men and women navigate the evolving dynamics of power and desire? Make Love or Die boldly explores these questions, presenting this complex reordering in a visceral, theatrical way.
Qetesh &
Mistress of The Gods
The album Qetesh, released on May 10, 2022, draws inspiration from Egyptian mythology, focusing on the goddess Qetesh, who symbolizes fertility, beauty, and sexuality. This project marked a significant evolution for Belle and The Beats, combining music, poetry, and dance to explore themes of love, sexuality, and liberation. The album was produced by Gil Lopez with Eyal Margalit contributing as a composer and performer.
To bring the album to life, Belle and The Beats created The Mistress of the Gods Show, a club performance that premiered at De Melkweg, Amsterdam.
